Falas Weyr Clutch 14 - Nysheth & Ainnth

They were almost like brothers, but so very different from one another. Salarn and Cenden had both been brought to the Smithcraft hall when they were ten turns old, they had been born in the same season, Winter, and were both quite strong and healthy. Their mothers had both had children before them, their families spread thin or vanished before their selection to come to the Smithy hall. They didn't look alike at all, other than their stature which was somewhat short. Both however were rakishly attractive and knew it, carried themselves with a strong flair and boisterous nature. They weren't polite, at least not to peers or strangers, but they did know their smithy work.

Salarn would share things eagerly, while Cenden didn't appear to care whether anyone 'had or had not'. They challenged each other to produce results in their classes, so their abrupt nature was largely ignored in favor of that. In fact they challenged anyone that came near their abilities. Had they not been Searched, they would both have walked the Journeyman tables shortly, probably together, and certainly been awarded their knots.

As it was, they were searched. That would normally have put an end to their Smithy status - but this particular Hall had dealt with several Weyrs before, and knew that if they did Impress they would still continue their work, Smithcraft was needed in a Weyr, and Dragonhope would be their home eventually - with or without dragons. The far-north Weyr had plenty of other rider-crafters, so it was not unheard of.

Falas also needed such things, and that was where they went to Stand. Though they'd both become used to the mild climate and thin air at the Smith hall, each of them enjoyed their stay at the island Weyr for different reasons, and at different times... At first it was tropical, and Salarn was enjoying himself tremendously. Of course, the girls also got to enjoy him, as he would strut around without his shirt. Then, shortly before the eggs were ready to burst, the isle was struck with a cold front that even the locals claimed was unseasonably chill. Cenden had his turn to gloat - even though it had been some six turns since he'd come to the Smith hall, he was still able to strip down and bask in the wondered gazes, as the storms gathered.

Both of them needed to jump into their white Candidate robes, though, when the moment finally arrived. They could hear the chiming song of the dragons, and were let in by a number of riders. They passed by all the official folk, the weirder canines and even the ... well, whatever it was that had too many heads. No one was sure what to make of that. Their trip to the sands and the subsequent eruption of activity there would be emblazened on their memories forever. It was also just about the only time they'd ever stopped poking at each other in jest or in challenge, in weeks.

Even that didn't last, though, when they began to watch Impressions. If they had their money on them, they would have joined the betting and cheering - but ... Two browns, one dark and the other of average shade, proceeded to squabble a bit in front of two young men from the Smith Hall. As the two friends, Salarn and Cenden watched, they found it hard not to laugh. Finally, Salarn reached out and wrapped an arm around his dragon's dark brown neck and yanked him off the other hatchling. "Alright, Ardoth. That's enough. No need to fight over food when I'm sure there is plenty for all of you to eat!" The dark brown snorted, lashing out his tail in a last attempt to get his clutch-brother. Cenden smacked Issorth on the head and the brown whimpered, sinking to the sands. Shaking their heads and grinning, both young men lead their dragons toward the Barracks where Ardoth was proven wrong about his brother's claim.

There was indeed plenty of food, and so many dragons at their dishes! This wasn't a small clutch, they figured, but it was somewhat more exotic. There were dragons that ... well, they didn't quite 'defy' description, most of them could be called 'speckled browns' or greens or whatnot. One or two were so pale that they might not have been 'bronze' or 'blue' but rather 'cream' and 'white'... but the pair of smiths didn't care. Their dragons were theirs, and they were simply the best in the whole world.

It was clear that while Ardoth was a bit more aggressive and strong willed, Issorth would be bigger by a bit. That didn't stop either brown from squabbling or trying to steal the other's food! And thankfully, though both boys were somewhat rough, the dragons would obviously be rough and tumble themselves. There was nothing delicate about either of them, not like the little greens or sports. Certainly their boldness and strength would lend them both good spots in a wing... but it would probably also drop them in trouble now and again!
