Aikki, gull-kin

Name: Aikki
Race: Gull kin
Gender: Male
Appearance: small in height, but always upright, with brilliant white and black feathers, dark head, and reddish brown legs and beak. Red eyes. His legs are, unlike many seabirds, quite muscular and very human-looking.

Personality: Confident, entertaining, energetic, and restless. Aikki essentially always wants to be doing things, looking at stuff, fiddling with things (he has fingers, you just can't see them among his feathers), and mapping out new islands.

Aikki is a sea bird, and thus it's fortunate that he has a water-based power, to breathe pretty much any liquid or air. He's tested this out numerous times, and the only problem he sees is that he's so naturally buoyant that he can't stay under water or go very deep!

Because his feet are essentially human in shape rather than bird-like, Aikki doesn't do much carrying of things unless it's in a backpack, because he certainly can't use a weapon while he's flying. On the ground, he only uses knives or small hatchets, his limb strength is in soaring and flapping, not pounding or thrusting. So... he uses his beak and his brain, to catch fish or whatnot - he's not much of a fighter.

There were so many new things to look at, on Planet Twenty, Aikki didn't think twice about wanting to return home where his family had lived. It was true that he was a bit of a rogue, but he liked the shiny things, and he enjoyed how they sparkled and... yes, he was a thief. But now, where there was a lot more to actually do, like survive, Aikki didn't much care to swipe things that weren't his own.

Especially since there were much bigger, much nastier and certainly more impressive creatures out there - Kin or otherwise - that could make him return things. With or without asking.

Though there was a colony of seabirds like himself on the coast, he chose not to live among them. They were too varied, there were some gulls, some albatross, a frigate or three, puffins... whatever - it was a mishmash and not what he wanted. In that, he did yearn for his family life, because it was better, he thought, to be able to look at your family and see the same birds - not a bunch of others.

Besides, he couldn't breed with the others, right? So what was the point? Certainly they're good for friendship and backing you up for whatever job needed to be done, but in the end, he didn't want to bed down with a female if she wasn't going to help him raise his own family.

And indeed: settling down wasn't on his mind too much these days. Dragons were! There were magnificent beings of size and style and flight! Too few Kin could fly, many of the birds didn't, he was lucky. He felt that flight was the finest gift that their ancestors could give, and here were these huge dragon creatures with wings spread and ...

Yeah, Aikki wanted to befriend the dragons, if only because they could fly. They didn't look like him, but they didn't need to. Any flock flying around was a good one, right? Just to enjoy the air and the sea spray...

It was one of those strange colorful new Zekiran colonists' dragons that approached Aikki about finding his own flock - and to the Bower they went to see whether there was something appropriate in their collection of new births...

Could there be any question, that a creature such as Suna would come to Aikki to discover the "joys" of bonding. Aikki stood and watched as the dark-colored dragonet lifted itself off the sand. Aikki realized... this was no mere hatchling. This was his hatchling.

Now please. Food. Suna demanded, it was a voice that Aikki could never, ever ignore.

However, that wasn't all that happened in the few minutes following Suna's bond.

Aikki felt inexorably drawn toward another hatchling, with bright red wings and a darkly speckled body. She seemed happy to see both Suna and he.

There you are. Now... what Suna said. Food!

Two? Aikki didn't know he could bond two, but there they were. Suna didn't sound all that happy with the arrangement, but followed along because it appeared that Rudotoh was more dominant than ... he? She? Suna's mind-voice was neither here nor there. It turned out, that was because Suna was both male and female.

"So you totally cheated," Aikki chuckled, as Rudotoh and Suna lounged in the sun, on a small rocky island in the middle of nowhere. Suna had as per usual brought a big fish or two up to the surface, so that Aikki and Rudotoh could catch and kill them. Suna soared through the water as quickly as shhee did into the air, splashing everything, before landing to dry off and enjoy the sun.

"I did totally cheat, yes," Rudotoh admitted, munching on her fish. "But you cannot blame me, my one, when I have the ability and there you are waiting for a bond..."

He wasn't waiting, he already had me. Suna complained. Rudotoh gave a "pffuh" noise, and aimed a spray of magically-propelled water at him.

"Yes but you were still looking for a group, Suna. We're a group." Rudotoh nodded, and Suna pondered this for a moment before going back to eating.

Aikki just laughed, the feeling of the two dragons' minds upon his was bliss. Never alone, never at a loss for what to do, and certainly: way more prepared to meet the world at large, with a dragon that could manipulate water, and another that could produce fish almost at will!
