Whurra, Fox Shifter kin

Candidate at the Bower

Name: Whurra
Race: Fox kin (shifting)
Gender: Female
Appearance:
as above: appears to be a fair-skinned female human but with a fluffy tail, facial and body markings, and pointed ears. Her eyes are a brilliant orange color, and her hair is a brick red in both human and fox forms.
Personality: Whurra is a typical 'vixen'. If there's something she can't slink her way out of, she'll definitely try human wiles in addition to outright lies to get her way. She is not a fighter, in any sense of the word.

A rarity even among highly powered Kin, Whurra is a shapeshifter able to lose her four-footed shape (which is her 'default', rather than an upright biped) and become a shortish (5'4") human. It's true that she couldn't quite pass as Human fully, but that suits her fine. She'd far rather hang out with four-footers anyway, but she certainly can use her human shape properly in all senses of the word. It doesn't require much concentration or effort for her to maintain her humanoid form, though she cannot keep it when she sleeps or is rendered unconscious - or in tremendous pain or stress. She cannot speak more than a normal Fox when in four-footed form, and thus must become humanoid to communicate if she's not being heard clearly with body language. Also she cannot shift into any different versions than the above - it's one or the other, and the shifting takes only moments.

Whurra has no other powers - that are known anyway. It's possible that she has a latent empathic ability, because she certainly knows how to 'coy' her way through a room full of Humans.

Her wits, her pretty face, her soft fur, and lies lies lies. The closest she's ever come to handling a real weapon is threatening another inmate of a Kin internment camp with a nail file. She doesn't shy away from a fight, at least not if she's not involved directly. She's one of those bystanders placing bets on the winner.

Because she was a fox to start, Whurra was always looked at a bit strangely even by Kin. It was quite clear from her earliest years that she understood clearly what was going on, and there were certainly cases of 'pureform' Kin being born with the body of their animal type, and the mind of a person.

And then she shifted into a human at the equivalent of around 12 years old (she was around 7 in real years).

So now not even Kin would talk to her.

She disdains the ludicrous prejudice on both sides of the Human / Kin fighting. She'd rather not embroil herself directly into it, however, prefering to make snide, pointed comments when people won't necessarily mind. She's by no means stupid, but many people both Kin and Human have observed her being rather shallow and short sighted.

Whurra prefers to be around quad-Kin, though there are so very few to socialize with! And, of course, once she shapeshifts in order to actually talk to them (since many of them can speak in their four-footed form) there goes that conversation.

Perhaps, she thinks, if she had a dragon-friend to hang out with, she'd be less lonely, and taken more seriously.

There were Humans at this nest, in the Bower... But they were not quite right. There were dragons, and gryphons and others, too, which intrigued the shifter kin. The power that eminated from the eggs here, though, that was what drew her directly to a particularly plain egg.

She'd noticed that the other eggs were all shiny or had strange exotic swirly patterns on them. But this one, this lovely khaki shaded thing, it was the one she knew she needed to pick up and - well she didn't want to steal it, it was supposed to be hatching any minute. She wondered absently if stealing dragon eggs would become a problem, or if the dragons themselves would just put a stop to it?

When the egg hatched, the most adorable mass of limbs, tails and wings came out. She heard his mind, warm but uncomfortably so, and asked him to speak up.

I said, you don't need to clutch on to me like that, I'm here, I'm going with you. Relax.

Whurra chuckled, and set the hatchling down. She hadn't even been aware she'd pulled him from the sticky shell bits, and now she needed to get cleaned up...

Their life would be like that, primarily with Whurra rushing almost unconsciously into things, and Purno snidely pulling her out. Not that he didn't have his own share of run-ins!

When the one Pelican-Kin village realized it was him making some of them sick with what could only be described as radiation poisoning, he had to concentrate on learning how to undo that damage and humbly apologize. They wouldn't be coming back to that village, but they'd certainly learned their lesson.
