Allain nosed around with Meneia when they noticed that two of their more boisterous pack members had gone missing for a while. It wasn't uncommon for the pack to split up and hunt or scout, dig around their territory and then come back a week or so later. But this was several weeks if not a full month ago, and they'd begun to worry. After all, Daelan was Meneia's offspring and she still felt a little connected to him, and his sister Daylara was even more fretful.

It wasn't long, however, before they found out why the pair had sequestered themselves. A small litter of four colorful pups could be heard in their dark, narrow den.

"Oh, my," Allain chuckled, "well, you're a grandmother now, Meneia..."

The silver colored female aimed a blast of cold wind at her partner, "hush you, don't make me feel old."

It was then that they saw Rein's nose poke out from the den, she clearly heard the pair of Alphas. When she came out, the dalmatian colored wolf could hardly be distinguised from the dirt, until she shook it all free with a great effort. She hung her head low, curled her tail down, and mantled her wings in submission.

"Oh there's no need for that," Allain chirped happily. Meneia glared at him fiercely but said nothing. After all it was he who brought all these others to the Keep, she was more in charge of helping the Glenn Dragons on their way. The pack was his business.

"We weren't sure you'd approve," Rein said softly. She was normally extremely playful and busy-bodied, like her sire Eaaril, but taking care of cubs brought her down to earth a bit.

"I don't," Meneia muttered, her position as Alpha female would typically have guaranteed her a say in whether anyone else bred, but ... again, pack matters were up to Allain.

"Well we can't really keep all of them here," Allain said mostly to mollify Meneia. "We'll get them healthy and trained, you just concentrate on protecting them, eh?"

Daelan appeared, with a rabbit in his mouth and realized that the Alphas had arrived. He thought about offering them the rabbit but then heard his foursome of pups in their snug den below and proudly laid the kill at his mate's feet. "She needs to keep her strength up," he said.

"You see, Meneia, they're going to be fine, the Keep is big enough in the meantime."

"Let's not allow this to be a common occurrance," she warned.

It wasn't necessary to warn these two ... but perhaps others...

When Rein declared them ready, her half-year old pups were paraded toward the Melolong caverns and introduced to their new mentors. Where each might have some kind of magical abilities, they were paired up with another wolf who could aid them in learning more. They'd never be of the highest status of magical users like their grandmother, Meneia, but with clever thinking they might use their magics in new ways when they got where they were going.

And within another half year, the young could no longer be called pups any more! Of the four, one chose to remain. Colorful and spotted, he settled into his own niche to watch the rest of his littermates choose who they would be tended by in the future. Not for him, those things! He could take care of himself!

The single female among the litter strode with purpose toward one of the white-riders. L'ark by name, and eyed his pale dragon. "You need some help making decisions, I see," she told them. "I can do that. I don't know why I remained here so long!"

The polar reverse of his mother, black with white spots, a male named Laanir sniffed up and down a young man named Antiko. He had the scent of many other creatures, which intrigued the young wolf. "I like you, let's go!"

The mottled, prismatically calico colored male left noticed there was a silver winged wolf also waiting, seemingly waiting for more than just a pup to take care of. "We will make a good pack, some day," Einea told him.

And off they went! Meneia was relieved - it wouldn't be a great idea to have too many pups around ... oh wait... She glanced at several guilty looking pack members, and in frustration bolted after them! Allain's instructions be damned, too many pups would make things too complicated!

She was not quite what her parents had ever imagined she'd be - they were Kin, and she was four footed. But more than that, she also had those great feathered wings. Stunning, but... seriously wrong. They didn't belong on any true Kin, did they? Not a wolf kin, that's for sure. So Singed was sent away to Planet Twenty. She spent half a dozen years there, slinking around the plains until she saw dragons in the sky and knew that there was something more in the world than merely being relegated to a strange hostile place.

She also found wolves... like herself. Oh, what would her scared, two-footed parents ever have to say about them?! She was the only one who glowed, burned, lit up with the psionic power that her brother - unknown to her - had hidden for many years himself. However he was not here on this planet of exiles. She'd had to learn how to control her powers by herself. Until now.

Now, there were many that could train her, and help her learn their language. She couldn't speak, but she could think - like most inhabitants of Planet Twenty she was quite strongly psionic. She had no 'magic' but what she did have more than made up for it. And, now that she'd had time to adjust to living among others, she felt she'd finally found her place in a real pack.

The wolves who practiced fire magic were more attractive to her. They could match her power, though some did other things as well. And so it was among those, who she decided to find a mate. If she was to be a Kin on four paws, she may as well give the world proper amazing four-footed offspring. And she did, oh yes. She did.

Meneia of course would find out, but she couldn't stop this pairing, a native of the planet and one of her stronger fire magic users? Well, there were already some pups being sent out to new homes, so they should have no trouble finding their own way in the universe. Whether it be with a pack, a bond, or wandering alone, these wolves would be prepared.
