It wasn't going to be easy, having to live up to her parents. Even though they were both fairly well settled with Planet Twenty, it had taken the Outsiders all this time - nearly two million years - to really get up close and personal, and once they did, it was spectacular. Vaanard's ability to work with genetics gave them a perfect child, so he said, and there was no doubt that the blue-eyed, black haired girl they had looked perfect.

She blended in with everyone in the Colony, was well accepted.

But she was very, very alone. Her mother's power to bond emotionally had been coming up stronger and stronger since her puberty years. When she was younger, she'd speak with the nearby dead Kin and even a couple of the straggler Zekirans in the colony. But like her ancestor Mirage, that power faded a bit into a different more useful one, which she declines to use.

However, the replacement of that power with the one which gnawed at her mind and soul was more frustrating than anything else. She wandered around not just the peaks around Zekira (the colony) but into the Kin lands where Mirage (the reborn) liked to take many photographs.

They got along well, these two young bodies with seemingly aged souls. Mirage's really was that old, but Aafaen's definitely felt similar. She was not a reincarnation of anyone, that they could tell, she was just very, very 'old' inside.

"I'm not old," Aafaen said, kicking at a stone and watching it tumble to the stream below where she walked. "I'm just alone."

You're never alone, a voice came to her mind, but she waved it off. "Etan, stop it. I don't want to know what you're up to."

I think you might, he chided. His body had died, or had it - he was known to be a genrehopper, like her own ancestors, and there were probably thousands - an infinity - of him out there in the multiverse. In this one, he happened to be an extremely old, extremely powerful Zekiran spirit. Shards, he was practically as old as their race - he was only born a few thousand years after they colonized the planet originally, and that left him more than eighty thousand when they left... Like many on the colony ship, but still, unlike them.

Aafaen was kind of glad that he wasn't gifted with a body, just now. Because she felt a dread that if he had one and showed up, she might bond all over him, and that would be frightfully embarrassing to explain to her mother. Who, like many, seemed to despise the man for no real good reason.

Well, had she known the things he'd done while in those eighty thousand years on Zekira...

"Well, what is it then?" Aafaen asked the air. No one was around to see, she could talk out loud if she felt like it. And just yet, she felt like it. She felt like screaming, actually. Not for any pain or particular offense, but just... because she was young, and needed something she couldn't even name.

I can help you find that thing you need, Etan's disembodied spirit told her. He nudged her senses toward a portion of a nearby universe. There she felt a tingling, it was odd - it was so familiar but so distant.

While Aafaen felt the ghost try and actually move her to action, she did it herself without hesitating. She found herself on a snowy plain, it was faintly too cold for her tastes, even though she had plenty of fur on her skin. There was no one evident here, until a moment went by. Out of the white came a more yellow-brown looking shape.

It materialized quickly into a tall, slender and muscular male. Winged, horned... He was ... dashing? Through the snow?

For whatever reason, Aafaen laughed suddenly at that thought. He pulled up short, a few yards away from her, and tossed his head oddly. Then, he shifted into a four-footer, which was something that Aafaen wasn't fully expecting, but didn't think twice about after the fact.

"Who are you?" She asked, gently. "I'm Aafaen, I'm from Planet Twenty, we're... well, I'm only here to see ... you. I think." She stammered, and then shook her head, rolling her eyes. "I'm not usually this stupid, either."

"I hardly think you are stupid," said the deer-like draconic creature. He was just as handsome in this shape, she decided. His luxurious black hair tumbled down his back, his wings were big enough to fly with, unlike hers, which might save her from a fall, but otherwise she felt they only got in the way.

She found herself walking slowly toward him. She put her hand on his muzzle, and he blinked, slowly. He was quite expert at shapeshifting, she noticed. He'd gone back to two-footed standing, and her hand was still on his cheek. He had a faint sheen of velvety fur, shorter than hers, still.

"Why do I like you so much?" He asked, tilting his head. "I am Zhuanash Houten, son of Moyangulmandulda and Zenizap Houten. All my siblings are gone now. I think... you're meant for me."

With that, Aafaen's heart lept - her mind jolted open and her empathy took control so soundly it almost hurt. She threw her arms around his shoulders, she was slightly shorter than he was even at his humanoid shape. She felt comforted by his presence, and that was his own power at work.

"Yes, you're definitely meant for me." He said, with a grin on his muzzled face. Together they 'hopped' back to the Zekiran mountainside, where Aafaen lived among her peers. Now, she had a different peer group to talk to: the riders. For when she did finally get the courage to ask if she could ride Zhuanash, he eagerly agreed and galloped down into the town, then flew back up.

The feeling of his fur beneath her legs was almost too much, though Aafaen held together long enough to get them back to her homestead. It wouldn't be long, really, before they did produce some kind of offspring... it was just about destined.
